Steamed Horse

Steamed Horse

This is one of a number of original watercolour paintings by Edward Mayhew created for his publications ‘The Illustrated Horse Doctor’ (1860) and ‘Illustrated Horse Management’ (1864). The watercolours were then used to make woodcuts for the final books.

This image is entitled A Horse (Having Rheumatism) Dressed after Being Steamed and was created for ‘The Illustrated Horse Doctor’, specifically the chapter ‘Limbs. – Their Accidents and Their Diseases’.
